WHAT IS A LED?
An LED is an electronic component whose main function convert electrical energy into light source. The word "LED" is derived from the abbreviation for "Light Emitting Diode".
More specifically, it is a special type of diode that converts electrical energy into light. The principle of operation is based on the emission of "photons" (light) at the time when carrying electrons will excite the electric power through the diode. This phenomenon is known as electronic lighting (or electroluminescence).
ADVANTAGES OF LED
- Low power consumption, making them more efficient than traditional incandescent and fluorescent lamps, as they give more light per watt;
- They can also be produced in (very) small size, which ensures that it can also be processed in very small devices and electronic circuits.
- Highly resistant to vibration and shocks, have a high degree of reliability and durability and have an average life of 50 times longer than incandescent lamps.
- Turns on and off in a time of 1ms, therefore it does not reduce the life od the led by turning on and off.
